A new Railway Empire game
Railway Empire 2 is a single-player strategy game that takes the Railway Empire franchise to another level. This game is a direct sequel to the first Railway Empire train simulator and takes place during the start of the railway industry. In this game, the player’s role is to take over a small company, tasked with creating a large network that services passengers from all over.
Compared to its original game, Railway Empire 2 features noticeably larger maps to work with, letting players expand and cover more land than ever before. This map is complemented by a deep and extensive system that allows them to build in all kinds of ways.
A lot of ground to cover
The first Railway Empire game was a sleeper hit with a loyal group of fans composed of both sim purists and hobbyists. You're an up-and-coming railway tycoon that took over a small business and you're tasked with building a railroad network that will stretch far and wide, catering to passengers everywhere. The players here can begin the game by starting in a small town as they lay down tracks and a special industry it excels at.
In this way, they can utilize this strength to gain income and establish trading with other towns for a healthy economy. You also need to pick the right train type to facilitate this or end up with losses. The same goes for the workers you'll hire, manage them properly, and keep them motivated. You're the only one with lofty aspirations, though, and this is where the game introduces the concept of Rivals.
Compete and outsmart others and be the largest and most successful railroad tycoon from North America across Europe. With the game’s bigger, more detailed, and lively map, players can explore the whole continent of the US and Europe. As a player, your mission here is to boost the economic growth of these continents as you build a railway system. Additionally, the game offers six characters that you can choose to lead your railway company wherein each of them has its own strengths and weaknesses.
Offers new DLC featuring the Indian subcontinent
With its newly released downloadable content, the Railway Empire 2 – India, the game expanded its game setting to India wherein players must also construct a railway system. After the game stopped in Japan, its next destination now is India wherein the gameplay here starts in the Golden Era of the East Indian Company. Just like the previous DLCs of the game, the objective of this expanded version is to boost the income of India through a railway system.
Here, railway transportation will be used to transport regional products of India like silk, bread, tea, and spices. With this, the future of the Indian subcontinent depends on the success of the railway construction. Aside from a new DLC, the game also recently released a new update that fixes the issue of not saving the old games of players. However, outside of a few improvements, there isn't anything new with this sequel. It looks and plays much like its predecessor, which some won't like.
Same gameplay as Railway Empire
Overall, Railway Empire 2 is great news to fans of the Railway Empire series. However, this sequel didn't bring many new things to the table outside of a few quality-of-life improvements. As a result, you get a game that looks marginally better although it plays similarly to the original. Aside from its bigger map and six characters that you can choose to manage your railway company, its gameplay, which is to establish a railway system, is still the same. Nevertheless, it's still a good game all the same. Just manage your expectations.
